A pioneering UK punk album with plenty of panache, the lighting-jolted "Damned Damned Damned" plays a great deal faster than the music of their contemporaries in the Sex Pistols or the Clash. "Stab Your Back" and "New Rose" - the country's first punk single - set the bar high with their frenzied paces, drummer Rat Scabies rampaging his kit like Keith Moon on a speed bender. Then again, the blood-chilling creep of mid-album highlight "Feel The Pain" - crooned by kinda corpse-painted frontman Dave Vanian - is a heart-panging, proto-goth classic.
