Following in the footsteps of fellow Memphis hardcore mainstays Clenched Fist and Bury The Living, That Was Then play a more upbeat, melodic, fun style of punk rock than their local contemporaries, but remain a part of that close-knit scene, borrowing influences from such luminary bands as Warzone and Gorilla Biscuits and throwing in aspects of newer bands like Comeback kid. These boys have been able to share the stage and tour the Southeast with bands like Madball, Bane, Champion, Death Threat, 100 Demons, Walls Of Jericho, Modern Life Is War, Terror and Comeback Kid.
